How a stay at Helyea works.

Helyea suits people who want quiet on their own terms — a couple looking for somewhere to disappear for a few nights, or a family wanting space, wildlife, adventure, and a fire at the end of the day. Dogs and well-behaved pets are welcome too, however please note the property is not fenced.
Perfect for couples
Two bedrooms mean the second room doubles as a study, a dressing room, or simply extra quiet. The outdoor fire was made for two people and a bottle of Tasmanian wine (recommended from Bruny Island Premium Wines just 3 minutes drive away, or a nice walk!)
Great for families
Sleeps six with room to move. Children love the bush, the pademelons at dusk, exploring the property and playing in the water/finding crabs in Daniels Bay. The kitchen is full-sized and the laundry is there when you need it.
Pets are welcome
Bring the dog. An acre of bush to explore and plenty of room to roam. We ask that pets stay off the furniture and bedding, and that you clean up after them on the property.
One hundred dollars a night.
There are no seasonal surcharges and no cleaning fee at the door — the cleaning is to be performed by the the guests on the way out. The two-night minimum keeps the rhythm of the place steady.

We believe spending time away as a family is one of the most important things that you can do. Helyea is a real shack — not a styled retreat — and we love the idea of families falling in love with it the same way we did. Kids have never been a line item here and never will be.
What we ask of you.
Helyea runs on trust. There is no on-site manager. In exchange for the simple, direct booking, we ask every guest to leave the shack ready for the next.
Take your rubbish with you
There is no kerbside collection at the shack. All rubbish, recycling and food waste leaves with you.
Wash and dry the bedding
Strip the beds, wash the sheets, dry them and remake the beds for the next guest before you go.
Wash and dry the towels
Bath and tea towels into the wash, dried and folded and left where you found them.
Clean the kitchen and surfaces
Dishes done and put away, surfaces wiped, fridge cleared of anything you brought in.
Extinguish fires, restock wood
Make sure both fires are fully out before you leave. If you’ve used wood, restock from the woodshed.
Reset for the next guest
Furniture back where you found it, windows shut, doors locked, key returned to the lock box.

From Hobart it’s a thirty-minute drive to Kettering, a fifteen minute ferry across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, and a forty minute drive south to Lunawanna. A car is essential!
